Edward A. Preston

General Counsel, Leasing

Ed Preston serves as General Counsel, Leasing with J.J. Gumberg Co.  With more than 15 years of
experience as a real estate and commercial attorney, Mr. Preston has worked with prominent Pittsburgh
real estate developers, owners, and operators, including Zamagias Properties and Kossman
Development Company.  His expertise spans shopping centers, mixed-use historic renovations, office,
student housing, and residential properties. Throughout his career, Mr. Preston has drafted and
negotiated numerous complex leases, purchase and sale agreements, as well as condominium,
financing, and construction documents. He is responsible for all day-to-day commercial lease
negotiation and insurance matters for the company.
Before transitioning to in-house counsel, Mr. Preston practiced with a boutique law firm specializing in
real estate, business services, and general litigation, representing a national bank and major regional
property owners.
Mr. Preston earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Computer Technologies and a
Bachelor of Arts in History and Historic Preservation from the University of Pittsburgh. He obtained his
Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Duquesne University.
An active member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, Mr. Preston has served as President of the
Association’s Real Property Section. He is also a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel,
Western Pennsylvania Chapter.  Beyond his professional commitments, Mr. Preston is engaged in his
community, actively participating in Cub Scouts as a Den Chief.
